"Cape Coral has more canal-front residential lots than anywhere else in the world. Every one of them is a backyard that was meant to be lived in — not looked at through a window."

YOUR  SITUATION

The Backyard Is Ready. You Know What It Should Be.

The Problem is Finding Someone to Build It Right.

With over 400 miles of navigable canals — more than Venice, more than Amsterdam, more than any other city on earth — Cape Coral was designed from the ground up around outdoor living. You bought on the canal, or you bought within reach of it. You came here, or stayed here, because January on a Cape Coral lanai beats January almost anywhere else in the country.

You know exactly what your backyard should be. The outdoor kitchen designed as part of the view. A louvered pergola overhead so the afternoon storm doesn't end the evening. A fire feature for October nights when the temperature finally drops and you remember why you chose Florida in the first place.

The challenge isn't the vision. It's trusting the right company to execute it — one who understands what a saltwater environment does to standard materials, who listens and guides you through the process, and who builds something that still looks right five years from now when it's had five hurricane seasons and hundreds of backyard evenings behind it.

That's the gap HL Posey Builders has filled in Cape Coral since 2007.

HOW IT WORKS

A Simple Path From

Vision to Finished Outdoor Kitchen

The process should feel straightforward — because it is, when you're working with a contractor who has done this thousands of times in Cape Coral. Here are the three steps from your first call to your first evening at the outdoor kitchen.

We Listen:

Starting with an in-depth conversation about your space and ideas, we give you a budget range. You can make an in-person or virtual visit to our showroom to see everything that fits your vision. Then we come out to your house and make it all work.

We Design:

We design your hangout and let you know what your investment will be. We guide you through the final selection of cabinet colors, countertops and backsplashes. Write it all up to determine the final scope of work so everyone is on the same page, including our licensed plumber and electrician.

We Build. You Enjoy:

Construction begins on your scheduled date. The construction period generally takes around three weeks for an outdoor kitchen. The last day we install all the appliances and clean up all the dust. Always shooting to deliver a 5-star performance.

WHY  MATERIAL  SELECTION  MATTERS  HERE

What Salt Air Does to an Outdoor Kitchen

and  How We Build for it

Cape Coral's canal system is its greatest asset and its greatest material challenge. Every property within a few blocks of a saltwater or brackish canal lives in a corrosive environment that destroys standard outdoor kitchen materials faster than most companies will admit. We don't cut those corners.

Appliances & Hardware

On saltwater and brackish canal properties, we specify USA-manufactured 304-grade stainless for all appliances and hardware — not an imported 304, 201 or 430-grade material found in many mass-market outdoor kitchen lines. The difference is measurable within a single Florida summer on a direct-access canal lot. We carry Twin Eagles, Delta Heat, Coyote, and Alfresco appliance lines specifically because their stainless specifications are appropriate for this environment.

Countertops & Surfaces

Granite is a suitable material, but is porous and absorbs moisture, stains, and salt residue in outdoor conditions — requiring maintenance sealing.  For your Cape Coral outdoor kitchen, large-format porcelain or quartzite countertops that are UV-stable, non-porous, and require no sealing to maintain their appearance for years in this environment can be a better choice, but pricy.  Most people choose granite because of the cost.

WHAT  WE  BUILD

Every Project Custom-Designed

for Your Specific Backyard

Every project starts with your lanai, your home's architecture, and how you intend to use the space. No two Cape Coral lots are the same — saltwater versus freshwater canal, direct Gulf access, lot orientation, dock placement, and existing lanai structure. We design every project around your specific property from the first conversation. Nothing is pulled from a catalog.

Custom Outdoor Kitchens & Summer Kitchens

Full cooking environments designed around your canal view, your dock orientation, and how you actually use your backyard — not a standard layout. Built-in grills, smokers, pizza ovens, side burners, outdoor refrigerators, beverage coolers, ice makers, sinks, and bar setups are built into structural aluminum frames with stone, tile, or stucco facades. Countertops and appliances specified for your specific canal exposure — saltwater, brackish, or freshwater. Every outdoor kitchen is built with the best materials and crafmanship with helping you become a 'Hangout Hero' always in the forefront of our mind.

Louvered Pergolas & Shade Structures

Motorized louvered pergola systems — aluminum blade roofs that open for breeze, angle for shade, and close fully to shed rain through integrated gutters — are the most practical shade structure for a Cape Coral outdoor kitchen. When the afternoon thunderstorm arrives, you close the blades with a wall switch and stay outside. We also install fixed aluminum pergolas, solid-roof aluminum pavilions, and attached patio covers. Every shade structure is engineered to meet Lee County's wind-load requirements and designed to frame your canal view rather than obstruct it. Column placement and pergola span are both determined with your sightlines as the priority.

Outdoor Fire Features — Fire Tables & Fireplaces

Custom gas fire pits, fire tables, fire pit bowls, linear outdoor fireplaces, and wood-fired or gas pizza ovens built into custom stone or porcelain surrounds. Cape Coral's evenings from October through April are made for a fire feature — the temperature drops, the canal reflects the light, and the outdoor kitchen becomes the reason guests don't want to go inside. We handle the gas line, the City of Cape Coral permit where required, and every layer of the finish as one contractor. No subcontractor handoffs between the kitchen and the fire feature.

Outdoor Living Spaces

Complete backyard environments — outdoor dining areas, lounge zones, outdoor bars with bar seating, fire features, and entertainment walls — designed as one cohesive outdoor living space that flows from your home's interior and looks out toward the canal. The kind of space you use every day, not just on weekends. We design the full space before we build any of it. The kind of outdoor space that makes every Cape Coral morning and evening feel like the backyard hangout you always imagined.

WHAT  IT  LOOKS  LIKE  WHEN  IT 'S  DONE

This Is the Cape Coral

You Came Here For

A finished outdoor kitchen isn't a home improvement project. It's the moment Cape Coral becomes everything you said it would be when you bought here. It's a specific evening in January that makes every decision that led here feel exactly right.

It's a Wednesday in February. You haven't thought about winter anywhere else in weeks.

The built-in grill is running. The fire table is lit. The louvered pergola blades are angled against the late sun. The canal is catching the last of the light behind the outdoor kitchen. This is just Wednesday now — and it's the version of Wednesday you moved here to have.

The neighbor next door asks who built your outdoor kitchen. You give them our number.

Word travels fast on Cape Coral's canals. A permitted, well-built outdoor kitchen — with materials that clearly haven't rusted and a pergola that clearly isn't going anywhere — gets noticed from the dock and from the water. We've built entire streets one backyard at a time in Cape Coral. The referral is the review that matters most to us.

You go to sell. The outdoor kitchen is in the listing headline. The inspector finds nothing to flag.

A licensed-contractor-built outdoor kitchen in a Cape Coral home is a documented asset that transfers cleanly to the next owner. No removal required. No disclosure complications. The outdoor kitchen you enjoyed for years closes the deal rather than complicating it.

WHAT  WE  HELP  YOU  AVOID

The Shortcuts That Show Up

at the Worst Possible Moment

Cape Coral is one of the most active outdoor kitchen markets in Southwest Florida — and one of the most saturated with companies who cut corners. The crew working without a license. The builder who uses the same spec sheet no matter the floor plan and leftover scrap from the dumpster to build an outdoor kitchen. The contractor who assures you the City permit "isn't really necessary" for a covered structure..

If something goes wrong, YOU are on the hook. Not their liability insurance, not your homeowners insurance, JUST YOU. As a Certified Contractor, our general liability insurance costs twenty to thirty times more than that of a company operating as an unlicensed contractor.

We'd rather have this conversation before you hire anyone than after a project goes sideways. Here's what we help you avoid.

WHY HL POSEY BUILDERS

A Certified Contractor Who Has Built In Cape Coral Since 2007

HL Posey Builders has been building outdoor kitchens, pergolas, and outdoor living spaces in Cape Coral since 2007. We've built on Gulf-access lots in the SW quadrant and freshwater canal properties in the NE. We've navigated the City of Cape Coral's building department through every regulatory update since incorporation. We've built through five hurricane seasons that tested every structural decision we made.

Outdoor kitchens and outdoor living spaces are our entire business — not an add-on to a pool company or a landscaping route or a paver company. That focus produces a different result in design quality, material knowledge, and in how the finished outdoor kitchen performs five and ten years from the build date.

HL Posey Builders is a Florida-certified building contractor. We permit every project that requires a permit through the City of Cape Coral's building department. We get the inspections. We give you the documentation. Your investment is protected — and documented — from the first day we break ground to the day you hand over the keys to the next owner.

QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU CALL

Cape Coral Homeowners Ask Us

  • Does Cape Coral have its own building permit process, or does it go through Lee County?

Cape Coral has its own municipal building department, separate from Lee County's. All permits for work within Cape Coral city limits — that require a permit, like pergolas, and covered structures — go through the City of Cape Coral Building Division, not the Lee County building department. This is a distinction that matters: contractors unfamiliar with Cape Coral's specific process sometimes submit to the wrong jurisdiction and lose weeks. We permit exclusively through the City of Cape Coral for all Cape Coral projects and know the department's current submission requirements and review timelines well.

  • Does it matter whether my canal is saltwater or freshwater when choosing materials?

Cape Coral's canal system includes both saltwater (tidal) canals connected to the Gulf via Charlotte Harbor and the Caloosahatchee, and freshwater canals in the interior sections of the city. Saltwater and brackish-water canal properties experience considerably more aggressive corrosive conditions than freshwater lots. On direct-access Gulf and saltwater canal properties, we spec 304-grade stainless for all appliances and hardware, NatureKast or powder coated aluminum cabinetry, and porcelain or quartzite countertops. On freshwater canal properties, some of those specifications can be relaxed — but we evaluate each lot individually at the on-site consultation and make the right call for your specific location, not a one-size-fits-all spec.

  • How do I make sure my pergola doesn't block my canal view?

View preservation is one of the first conversations we have on every Cape Coral project. The solution is almost always a combination of the right structure height and column placement, the right roof system — louvered pergola roofs let you adjust opening and shade without blocking sightlines the way a solid roof does — and orienting the kitchen and living space layout so seating faces the canal rather than the structure. If a design element is going to affect your view, you'll know before we build it, not after.

  • What does an outdoor kitchen cost in Cape Coral?

A properly built outdoor kitchen in Cape Coral typically runs from $13,000 for a straightforward grill-and-counter setup on a freshwater canal lot to $85,000 or more for a full outdoor living space with pergola, fire feature, refrigeration, and high end materials on a saltwater or Gulf-access property. Material specifications for saltwater locations do add cost — but they're the difference between a kitchen that lasts decades and one that needs significant repair or replacement in three years. We provide a detailed, fixed-price proposal. No ranges — a real number you can plan around.

  • Will an outdoor kitchen add value to my Cape Coral home?

In the Cape Coral market, a well-built outdoor kitchen consistently appears as a featured selling point in listing presentations — particularly on canal-front properties where the backyard is central to the home's appeal. Buyers shopping for canal-front homes in Cape Coral are already oriented toward outdoor living; an outdoor kitchen with a covered pergola tells them the backyard is finished and ready to use. The value impact is strongest when the outdoor kitchen built with quality materials (no obvious deferred maintenance), and designed to complement the home's architecture. A high-quality outdoor kitchen in Cape Coral's current market typically returns a significant portion of its investment at resale, and in many cases shortens time on market. We can't guarantee specific numbers, but the Cape Coral real estate market consistently rewards well-done outdoor living spaces.

  • How long does an outdoor kitchen project take from start to finish?

A typical outdoor kitchen from the time the contract is signed, runs 10 to 14 weeks in Cape Coral.  It takes 2 to 8 weeks to get all of your material to our warehouse, a week or two to get you on the schedule and, 2 to 4 weeks to complete construction. If the project requires a permit the timeline becomes out of our control and could add 4 to 12 weeks to the process.
