YOUR SITUATION
The Backyard Has Been Waiting Long Enough.
Let's Finish It.
You live in one of the most enviable outdoor climates on the planet. Fort Myers and Lee County give you 271 sunny days a year, a Gulf Coast culture built around waterways and backyard life, and the kind of January evenings that make everyone back home jealous. The boating lifestyle on the Caloosahatchee. The canal neighborhoods of Iona and Cape Coral. The gated communities of Gateway, Miromar Lakes, and Estero a few miles south. Every one of them is a backyard that was meant to be lived in.
You've known for a while what the outdoor kitchen should look like. The built-in grill facing the pool or the canal. A louvered pergola overhead so the afternoon storms don't end the evening early. A fire feature for those October nights when the temperature finally cooperates. Maybe a full outdoor bar. Definitely more than what's there now.
The vision isn't the problem. The problem is knowing which contractor in Lee County is actually qualified to build it — with the right materials for a Gulf Coast environment, with a Lee County permit pulled before construction starts, and with a finished result that still looks right in five years rather than needing a service call in one.
HL Posey Builders has answered that question for Lee County homeowners since 2007.

BUILT FOR THIS ENVIRONMENT
What Lee County's Climate Does to an
Outdoor Kitchen — and How We Spec for it
Eighteen years of building in Lee County has given us a very specific education in what the Gulf Coast environment does to outdoor kitchen materials that weren't chosen for it. We make every material decision with Fort Myers conditions as the starting point — not as a footnote.
Appliances & Hardware
For waterfront and near-coastal properties throughout Lee County, we specify USA-manufactured 304-grade stainless for all appliances and hardware — not an imported 304, 201 or 430-grade material found in many mass-market outdoor kitchen lines. The grade difference is measurable and visible within a single Florida summer on any property with meaningful salt air exposure. We carry Twin Eagles, Delta Heat, Coyote, and Alfresco appliance lines because their metallurgical specifications are appropriate for this environment — not because they're available at the lowest price point.

· TWIN EAGLES · DELTA HEAT · COYOTE · ALFRESCO
Countertops & Surfaces
For Lee County outdoor conditions — UV intensity, humidity, and rain — we most frequently specify large-format porcelain and quartzite countertops. Granite is a viable choice for many applications, but its porosity requires ongoing sealing outdoors to prevent salt absorption and staining; leathered granite and dolomite perform better in this regard for homeowners who prefer natural stone. We match every countertop selection to your home's interior finish quality and to the specific demands of your lot's sun exposure and proximity to water..

WHAT WE BUILD
Every Project Custom-Designed
for Your Fort Myers Property
No catalog builds. No standard layouts. We design every project around your specific
backyard, your home's architecture, your lot's conditions, and how you actually intend
to use the space.
Custom Outdoor Kitchens & Summer Kitchens
Full outdoor cooking environments designed for Lee County's year-round lifestyle. Built-in gas grills, charcoal grills, smokers, pizza ovens, side burners, outdoor refrigerators, beverage coolers, ice makers, sinks, and outdoor bars — built into a masonry or steel frame structure with stone, tile, or stucco facades. Pergolas & Shade Structures
Motorized louvered pergola systems, solid-roof aluminum pavilions, fixed aluminum pergolas, and attached patio covers. Louvered pergola systems give you adjustable aluminum blade roofs that open for breeze, angle for shade, and close completely when Lee County's afternoon storms arrive — all with a wall switch or phone app. Every pergola and pavilion we install is engineered to post-Ian Lee County wind-load requirements and sized to your specific outdoor kitchen and backyard dimensions.

Complete Outdoor Living Spaces
Outdoor kitchen, louvered pergola, fire feature, outdoor dining area, lounge zone, outdoor bar with bar seating, entertainment wall, and landscape lighting — designed together as one cohesive outdoor living space that flows from your home's interior. Outdoor Fire Features
Gas fire pits, fire tables, fire pit bowls, linear outdoor fireplaces, and wood-fired or gas pizza ovens built into custom stone or porcelain surrounds. Fort Myers's October-through-April evenings — when the temperature finally cooperates and the humidity backs off — are the best months in the outdoor kitchen calendar, and a fire feature is what makes them last past 9pm. Outdoor electric fireplaces provide ambience year around.

We install tens of thousands of square feet of wood ceilings every year, and 95% of it is manufactured by Synergy. But, we have options where you can choose any color on the paint color chart.

WHERE WE WORK IN LEE COUNTY
We Know Fort Myers and Lee County
Because We've Built Everywhere in Lee County
Eighteen years of building in Lee County means we know the neighborhoods, the HOA processes, the specific lot conditions, and the county building department — not from a map, but from having worked here continuously since 2007.
Iona & South Fort Myers
The Iona corridor along the Caloosahatchee River and San Carlos Bay produces some of the most compelling outdoor kitchen settings in Lee County — waterfront lots with western exposure, Gulf views, and the salt air conditions that demand properly specified materials. We build throughout Iona, Whiskey Creek, and south Fort Myers's established waterfront neighborhoods..
WATERFRONT · CALOOSAHATCHEE · SALT AIR EXPOSURE
Gateway & Verandah
Gateway and Verandah's golf-course and preserve-edge lots create ideal conditions for outdoor kitchen and louvered pergola builds oriented toward the course or the natural backdrop. Both communities have HOA architectural review requirements that we navigate as part of every project — material submissions, elevation drawings, the full package..
GOLF COURSE · PRESERVE EDGE · HOA EXPERIENCED
Miromar Lakes
One of Lee County's premier lake-living communities — private beach, boat docks, and a homeowner profile that expects a high finish level on every outdoor addition. Miromar's architectural standards are specific and enforced. We've built custom outdoor kitchens throughout Miromar and know the community's review process cold.
LAKEFRONT · LUXURY · STRICT ARCHITECTURAL STANDRDS
Three Oaks & Colonial Blvd Corridor
The established neighborhoods along the Colonial Boulevard corridor and Three Oaks Parkway represent some of Lee County's most active outdoor kitchen market — homeowners in the 45–70 demographic who have owned their homes long enough to be ready for the investment. We build consistently throughout this area..
ESTABLISHED NEIGHBORHOODS · HIGH HOMEOWNERSHIP · ACTIVE MARKET
Buckingham & East Lee County
Buckingham's larger rural and semi-rural lots offer some of Lee County's best opportunities for full outdoor living room builds — the space to do the outdoor kitchen, the pavilion, the fire pit, and the dining area without compromising any element. Less HOA complexity and more design freedom than the gated communities to the west.
LARGE LOTS · RURAL SETTING · MAXIMUM DESIGN FREEDOM
North Fort Myers & Surrounding
North Fort Myers's mix of waterfront communities, manufactured home parks, and residential neighborhoods produces a diverse outdoor kitchen market. We work throughout North Fort Myers and into the unincorporated Lee County areas north of the Caloosahatchee, including the communities along Del Prado Boulevard and Pine Island Road.

WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE WHEN IT 'S DONE
This Is the Fort Myers
You Chose When You Moved Here
A finished outdoor kitchen doesn't just complete the backyard. It makes Fort Myers feel like the decision you always knew it was — and it makes every day that the backyard was incomplete feel like something you won't repeat.
It's a Tuesday in January. You haven't thought about what the weather is doing anywhere else in weeks.
The outdoor kitchen is running. The louvered pergola blades are angled against the late sun. The fire table is lit. The Caloosahatchee is catching the last light somewhere behind the neighborhood. The conversation is deep and bonding. This is just Tuesday now.
The neighbor two doors down asks who built yours. You give them our number. They already have our card from their realtor
Fort Myers's established neighborhoods move on word of mouth. A well-built outdoor kitchen — with materials that clearly haven't corroded and a pergola that clearly hasn't moved — gets noticed. We've built entire blocks in Lee County one backyard at a time. The referral is the review that matters most.
You go to sell. The outdoor kitchen is in the listing headline. The inspector finds nothing to flag.
A licensed-contractor-built outdoor kitchen is an outdoor kitchen that doesn't create questions at closing — it answers them. Appliance warranties in a folder. The investment you made in the backyard becomes a documented, transferable asset that makes the sale cleaner than it would have been otherwise.
WHAT WE HELP YOU AVOID
The Shortcuts That Turn a
Good Decision into a Problem
Lee County's outdoor kitchen market has no shortage of companies who cut corners — unlicensed crews, paving companies, interior kitchen remodelers, home builders, and landscapers who have added outdoor kitchens to their service list without the licensure or the trade knowledge to do them correctly. The price may be lower. But, the risk is not.
We have had more conversations than we can count with Fort Myers homeowners who inherited someone else's poorly built outdoor kitchen or who need to fix a structure that was built with the wrong materials for this environment. We'd rather have that conversation before the project starts than after it goes wrong.
Here's what we help you avoid.
List of Services
-
An unlicensed contractor with no insurance coverage for youList Item 1
Florida law requires a licensed contractor for outdoor kitchen work involving gas, electrical, plumbing, or permanent structures. Unlicensed crews have no insurance that covers your property if something goes wrong. The liability lands on the homeowner — not the crew that drove away.
-
Materials that fail in Lee County's outdoor conditionsList Item 2
Imported low-grade stainless corrodes in salt air. Unsealed granite stains outdoors. A pergola frame surface-mounted without engineered footings doesn't meet Lee County's post-Ian wind-load code. These aren't worst-case scenarios — they're predictable outcomes from the wrong material specifications.
-
A pergola that doesn't survive the next named stormList Item 4
Lee County is in a high-velocity hurricane wind zone. Every pergola and covered structure we build uses engineered footings and connection hardware rated for the current Florida Building Code wind-load requirements — requirements that were updated meaningfully after Ian. Surface-mounted structures don't meet these standards and we don't build them.
-
A mid-project surprise that wasn't in the original quote
We give you a fixed-price proposal before we start. That number covers the full scope — design, materials, permit fees, allowances for unknowns, and construction. It doesn't change once you've approved the project. No change orders presented after work has already begun. No pressure to approve additional costs mid-build.
WHY HL POSEY BUILDERS
A Certified Contractor, Not a Handyman.
HL Posey Builders has been building outdoor kitchens, pergolas, and outdoor living spaces in Fort Myers and Lee County since 2007. This isn't a market we service from another zip code. It's where we are headquartered, where we have built for nearly two decades, and where we know the county building department, the HOA processes, the neighborhood conditions, and the specific demands of a Gulf Coast outdoor environment better than any contractor who drives in from outside the county to bid a job.
Outdoor kitchens and outdoor living spaces are the entire business. Not a pool add-on. Not a side service attached to a landscaping route. Not a line item on a home builder's service menu. Every design decision, every material specification, every structural detail we make is informed by eighteen years of building exclusively in this trade, in this climate, in this county.

COMMON QUESTIONS
What Fort Myers Homeowners
Ask Us Before the Consultation
What materials hold up best to the salt air in Fort Myers?
For water-front and coastal properties, we spec 304-grade stainless steel for all appliances and hardware (not the 201 and 430-grade you'll find in most big-box products), porcelain, quartzite, and granite countertops, and powder-coated aluminum framing rather than raw steel or standard aluminum. For cabinetry, we use NatureKast, Challenger Designs Aluminum, and Station Grill Aluminum rather than wood or polymer cabinets. These aren't upsells — they're what you need to not be replacing components in year two.
Can I build an outdoor kitchen in my HOA community?
Usually yes, but HOAs in Lee County communities — particularly in Miromar Lakes, Iona, and the Gateway area — have specific design standards around height, materials, colors, and setbacks. We are familiar with the submission process for most major Lee County HOAs and can help prepare the documentation your association requires as part of your project. We'll review your HOA covenants before we finalize design so there are no surprises at the approval stage.
What does an outdoor kitchen cost in Fort Myers?
A properly built outdoor kitchen in Lee County typically runs from $15,000 for a straightforward grill-and-counter setup to $80,000 or more for a full outdoor living space with pergola, fire feature, refrigeration, and premium stone. The number varies significantly based on square footage, appliance selection, countertop material, and structure type. We provide a detailed, fixed-price proposal with no ranges, no surprises on the invoice.
Are you hurricane-rated? Will my outdoor kitchen survive a storm?
Every structure we build meets Lee County's current Florida Building Code wind-load requirements, which were significantly strengthened after the 2004–2005 storm seasons and again after Ian in 2022. Our pergola systems use hurricane-rated anchoring and connection hardware, and our open-air structures are designed to let wind pass through rather than catch it. We can also discuss storm-prep options like removable louvered roof panels and appliance shutoff protocols. No structure is truly storm-proof, but ours are built to code and built to last.
How long does an outdoor kitchen project take from start to finish?
A typical outdoor kitchen from the time the contract is signed, runs 10 to 14 weeks in Lee County. It takes 2 to 8 weeks to get all of your material to our warehouse, a week or two to get you on the schedule and, 2 to 4 weeks to complete construction. If we need HOA approval or if the project requires a permit the timeline becomes out of our control and could add 4 to 12 weeks to the process.
